WHAT IS THE SALVATION ARMY ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROGRAM?

Along with the Angel Tree Program, the Adopt-A-Family was created to address the needs of families in need during the holidays.  Each year the Salvation Army in St. Louis receives hundreds of applications for assistance for the Adopt-A-Family program. The families who qualify for the Adopt-A-Family program are facing significant financial hardships have experienced extraordinary hardship during the year and are often unable to afford a Christmas dinner, new toys and warm clothing for their children.  Some are single parent families with very low income and some are of large families where a parent has been laid off from their job, have major medical expenses or facing some other significant challenge.

HOW YOU CAN HELP?

The Salvation Army’s Adopt a Family program is very rewarding and heart-warming way to help some of the neediest families in our community.  Its goal is to partner with businesses, organizations, and individuals who will adopt families who demonstrate extreme and/or unique needs during the Christmas season.  By participating in the Adopt-A-Family program, you can help with the needs of an entire family.  You can adopt a small family, a large family or multiple families.  The Salvation Army will provide the ages, sizes and wish list of each child.  This is a perfect holiday project and works for any budget.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:

Adopt –A-Family sponsors complete a simple form using the link to the sponsor application, specifying the size of family that they would like to adopt. Sponsors will then receive instructions for reviewing summaries of the families nominated for adoption. The summary will include a list of all members of the household, clothing sizes for all the children in the home, as well as a small wish list for each child. Sponsors select the family or families they want to sponsor. Sponsors are not expected to purchase every item on the “wish list”. Minimum for adopting a family is an outfit per child, one toy per child, and a grocery gift card for the family. Gifts from sponsors must be delivered to our Toy Town location at 1225 South Florissant Road, St Louis, MO 63121 between December 4th – 15th. Contact the Adopt-A-Family Coordinator to arrange the delivery at 314-646-4000 or by email at Adopt_A_Family@usc.salvationarmy.org.
