Christmas Assistance

Angeltree_3-030 web

The Salvation Army of Missouri and Southern Illinois serves our community all year long. However, during the Christmas season it is our goal to make sure the joy of this blessed Holiday reaches many more families.

Many families throughout Missouri and Southern Illinois face difficult financial hardships during the Holiday season and will be unable to purchase Christmas gifts for their children. The Salvation Army Midland Division offers an array of Christmas Assistance programs to help bring smiles and joy into the lives of those families in need. This includes assistance with food for the holidays, gifts and toys for children, assistance with utilities, and much more.

Because we want to respond to the varying needs of the communities in which we serve, all of our Christmas assistance programs are administered locally.  You will need to contact your local office in order to determine the exact process for registering.  If you need assistance or are interested in finding out specific ways you can volunteer or help with The Salvation Army’s efforts in your local community, please refer to About Us and click on Locations to identify by zip code your local Salvation Army office.

For more information on the application process on any of The Salvation Army’s holiday-assistance programs or how you can help, contact The Salvation Army Christmas Programs Hotline at (314) 646-3000.

Please bring proof of income, proof of address, a photo ID, and a Social Security card for each family member when applying at the Salvation Army location that corresponds with your zip code.

Red Kettle Campaign

The Red Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army’s oldest and most visible Christmas fund raiser. The campaign raises funds which are used for our Christmas assistance programs and year-round to enable us to serve people in need. Volunteer bell ringers at over 350 locations give their gift of time to help raise the dollars needed to serve their neighbors who come to The Salvation Army for assistance.

Rent Assistance

Helping families stay in their homes is a year-round goal of The Salvation Army. During winter months, it is especially important that families are safe at home.

Utility Assistance

Helping families maintain their water and power services brings light in more ways than one. The Salvation Army seeks to help struggling families maintain basic amenities, including electricity, gas, and water.

Grocery and Food Assistance

The Salvation Army helps struggling families keep food on the table, and most of our locations have food pantries and/or community meals throughout the year. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, we provide food boxes, grocery cards, or celebratory meals to our neighbors who need help.

Christmas Gifts for Kids

The Salvation Army wants every child to know the joy of Christmas. Through the generosity of donors in the community, toys are shared with families who can’t afford to buy gifts. Our cornerstone programs are listed below.

Angel Tree

“When you pick up an Angel Tree tag, you and The Salvation Army brighten Christmas for a child in need”

Along with the familiar Red Kettles, the Angel Tree program is one of The Salvation Army’s highest profile Christmas efforts. Angel Tree was created by The Salvation Army in 1979 by Majors Charles and Shirley White when they worked with a Lynchburg, Virginia shopping mall to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmas time.  Since then, the tradition has expanded and now is a cornerstone of The Salvation Army’s Christmas efforts.

Adopt A Family

The Adopt-A-Family Program teams up an organization or individual with a family in need of assistance in hopes of making this Christmas season one worth remembering. Families chosen for the program may have recently experienced a disaster like  a fire or flood,  be homeless or  in transitional housing, be grandparents raising grandchildren, have a child or parent with a serious illness, or have recently lost a child or parent.

Toy Town

For more than a decade, the popular Toy Town program has helped ensure more St. Louis Metropolitan area children wake up to a present under their tree on Christmas morning. It also provides families with vouchers to purchase groceries for Christmas dinner.

Marine Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots, a 67 year national charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, provides happiness and hope to disadvantaged children during each Christmas holiday season.  The toys, books and other gifts collected and distributed by the Marines offer these children recognition, confidence and a positive memory for a lifetime.  It is such experiences that help children become responsible citizens and caring members of their community. The Salvation Army Midland Division handles all toys request and when requesting toys contact The Salvation Army Midland Division at website stlsalvationarmy.org or 314-646-3000 or 314 646 3083
