St. Louis, Mo., November 5, 2014 – The 2014 Salvation Army Tree of Lights campaign is underway and the familiar red kettles will begin to appear throughout the Bi-state area in the coming weeks. The financial goal of this year’s campaign, which runs through Jan. 31, will be announced at a Kickoff Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 6 at Windows on Washington.
Richard Mark, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ameren Illinois, is this year’s honorary Tree of Lights chairman.
All monies raised during the Tree of Lights campaign stays local and 86 cents of every dollar goes directly into local programs and services. After funding holiday meals, gifts and programs for those in need, Tree of Lights donations help provide food, shelter, child care, job training and many other services throughout the year. The Tree of Lights campaign represents a substantial portion of The Salvation Army’s year-round operating budget.
Last year, The Salvation Army provided nearly 42,514 meals to hungry men, women and children, 8,175 nights of shelter to the community’s homeless, 7,655 food pantry boxes to families in need, and 5,402 Christmas gifts.
