Christmas Assistance

Toy Town Application Sites

For more than a decade, the popular Toy Town program has helped ensure more St. Louis children wake up to a present under their tree on Christmas morning. It also provides families with vouchers to purchase groceries for Christmas dinner.

In order to qualify, Toy Town applicants (households with at least one child under 17-years-old) must meet at least 125-percent of the federal poverty guideline, and General Assistance applications (households with no children under 17-years-old) must meet at least 150-percent of the federal poverty guideline. All applicants must bring to registration a photo ID; Social Security cards for all household members; proof of income – including child support, food stamps, etc.; and a piece of mail with the applicant’s current address.

The Salvation Army is also accepting applications for its Adopt-A-Family program, which matches impoverished families with individual or group sponsors to provide tangible needs for Christmas. When a match is made, the family information and wish lists are sent to the sponsor. The Salvation Army ensures the family receives the gifts and food the week before Christmas. The families in our Adopt-A-Family program are families nominated by agencies, local hospitals, and the case workers most intimately familiar with their case.

For more information on the application process on any of The Salvation Army’s holiday-assistance programs or how you can help, contact The Salvation Army Christmas Programs Hotline at (314) 646-3000.

Please bring proof of income, proof of address, a photo ID, and a Social Security card for each family member when applying at the Salvation Army location that corresponds with your zip code.
